We are seeking a comment letter from a non-profit that focuses on birds. We reached out to the Bird Alliance of Oregon, but did not receive a response. Granted the timeline is super short, but if any of you have friends who serve on the board of this or any other non-profits involved with migratory or nesting birds, or other wildlife, please send them this request for comment:
Request for Comment: Wildlife
Washington County residents are fighting to stop Sky Harbour from building a jet hub at Hillsboro Airport for 30 ultra-long-range private jets, which would increase jet traffic, bird strikes, and pollution (noise, water and air) across the county. The hearing record is open for a few more days. This is urgent.
Members of Oregon Air have filed a land use appeal in the City of Hillsboro, and the legal team is fully funded through the October council vote. This is not a request for donations. We are asking you to submit a public comment to the Hillsboro City Council in support of this appeal, and in opposition to Sky Harbour’s development. Send to Hillsboro Staff: Ruth.Klein@hillsboro-oregon.gov.
By submitting a short public comment, your organization would gain standing to participate in future appeals of this case. Tualatin Riverkeepers, Willamette Riverkeeper, and Neighbors for Clean Air have all stepped up and sent in comments on the record, but the wildlife angle, specifically birds, has not been addressed with sufficient detail and is lacking an advocate of record.
If multiple environmental groups speak out against the proposal, it will send a clear message to Sky Harbour that they face serious opposition. Would a representative from your organization be available to send a comment letter to the Hillsboro City Council? If you don’t have time to write a letter, feel free to adapt any of the Notable Comment Letters or Sample Emails here: https://oregonair.org/hd
The deadline is super short: Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 5:00pm. Please feel free to call Brett Hamilton (503-803-7609) if you have any questions or email action@oregonair.org. or visit https://oregonair.org/ Thank you!
Sincerely,
